2 Women Doctors Assaulted For Buying Groceries During Nationwide Lockdown In India
2 women doctors that are working at the Safdarjung Hospital, which is government-run, in South Delhi were assaulted for buying groceries during the nationwide lockdown.
The incident reportedly happened on the evening of Wednesday (April 8, 2020).
The doctors had gone to a market in nearby Gautam Nagar where they live.
However, upon arrival, the women were confronted by a man, who heckled and assaulted them for not being inside their house during the lockdown.
The man, whose identification was not shared with the public, harassed the doctors and said that they should not be outside, considering the fact that they are handling coronavirus patients.
When the doctors confronted the locals, they were attacked by the group of men.
The doctors later called the police, but upon their arrival, the man had left the area.
Locals at the market refused to share the details of the attacker, however, he was later tracked by the police.
The 42-year-old interior designer was arrested by the police on the evening of Wednesday, the night of the attack.
The doctors were brought to the Safdarjung Hospital for further treatment.
India went into a 21-day nationwide lockdown to stop the fast-spreading coronavirus from infecting many people.
