57-Year-Old Man With Coronavirus Commits Suicide By Jumping Off Hospital Building

A 57-year-old coronavirus patient committed suicide by jumping off a hospital building at a hospital in Bengaluru, India.

The death of the man has been categorized as “death due to non-COVID cause”.

Medical Education Minister Sudhakar confirmed the death of the 57-year-old.

It is said that the patient was a resident of Aland, Bengaluru, and tested positive from the virus on April 21, 2020.

According to reports, the man was suffering from breathing problems.

He was admitted to the GIMS (Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences).

The man also had severe liver-related ailments, confirmed Minister Sudhakar.

The patient was admitted to an ICU on the sixth floor of the Trauma care center.

The patient reportedly jumped from the trauma center building.

An official investigation has been launched, said the Bengaluru police.

Bangalore Medical College & Research Institute Dean Dr. C R Jayantih released a statement about the incident.

The statement said:

Apparently he was alright the previous night. He had breakfast in the morning today and requested for more. The Doctor and Nurse who were on duty at that time were attending to another critical patient in the ICU.  By the time the second round of breakfast came he slipped out of the ICU, opened the fire exit and took the fatal step by jumping off from the 6th floor staircase and fell on the roof of the patient attenders’ waiting area, and he died on the spot at around 8:15am.

The Victoria Hospital is a government-run hospital that is affiliated with the BMCRI (Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute).

According to the hospital, the 57-year-old patient had chronic renal failure and also had Hepatitis C Infection, which made his case worse.

The doctors said the patient, whose identity was not shared with the public, did not show any signs of depression.
