75-Year-Old Woman Lynched And Killed In India Because Villagers Thought She Was Witch

A 75-year-old woman was lynched and killed in India because villagers thought that she was a witch and was doing horrible things.

The incident happened in the Salami Village of Gumla District, Jharkhand, on September 9, 2020.

Shanicharwa Khadia, the victim, was sitting outside her house on September 9 when Pandu Oraon, a neighbor, assaulted her with sticks and a sharp weapon.

The news was confirmed by the authorities and local news agencies.

Mangaleshwar Khadia, the son of the victim, said that his mother died on the spot as a result of the injuries that she got during the horrible beating.

The police said that Oraon called the victim a witch and yelled at her before beating her to death.

The son of the victim also said that Oraon had tried to kill his mother in the year 2018 with the same motive.

Superintendent of police (SP) Hrudeep P Janardhan confirmed the news and said that Oraon will be arrested soon.

SP Janardhan also mentioned that witch-hunting cases in the country have decreased, however, there is still a lot to do in order to help people believe that there are no such things.
