Family Of 27-Year-Old Brain Dead Kerala Man Donates His Organs, Ends Up Saving 8 Lives

Kochi, Kerala: A 27-year-old man who was declared brain dead on July 17, 2020, ended up being the savior of 8 people after his wife and sister decided to donate his organs after his death.

Princy, the wife of 27-year-old Anujith, and Ajalya, the sister of the victim, donated his organs after he died.

The victim was involved in a motorcycle accident on July 14, 2020, near Kottarakkara, which is located in the Kollam district of Kerala.

He was rushed to the Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital in a critical condition and was later shifted to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, where he was declared dead.

2 Apnea tests were conducted at the Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences, and they proved that he was dead.

Princy and Ajalya came forward and donated the eyes, heart, kidneys, small intestine, and hands to health authorities.

He ended up saving the lives of 8 people.

Health Minister K.K. Shailaja appreciated the family for taking this humanitarian step in the time of grief.

The donation was made through the ‘Mrithasanjeevani’ – Kerala Network for Organ Sharing (KNOS) of the state government.

The heart of Anujith was donated to Thrippunithura-native Sunny Thomas (55) who is under treatment at the Lisie Hospital in Kochi.

The receiver of his hand and small intestine is admitted at the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, his identity was not shared with the public.

A Pawan Hans AS 35 Dauphin helicopter as rented by the state government so that they could transport organs of Anujith.
