Sabarmati Tol Naga, Ahmedabad: A Dalit teen was brutally beaten and stripped by a restaurant owner and his companions after an argument broke out between them.
The incident reportedly happened on the evening of November 2, 2019, but only got the attention of the police and the media when Jignesh Mevani, the MLA – Vadgam Assembly Constituency, Gujarat, tweeted a video of the incident.

MLA Mevani said in the tweet, “I will declare a Gujarat Bandh if the police does not arrest the perpetrators in 24 hours who attempted lynching of two Dalit youth in Ahmedabad yesterday night. Don’t think Dalits are cowards: we believe in Constitution!”
Pragnesh Parmar and Jayesh, the 2 Dalit teens, were brutally beaten by the owner of the restaurant with sticks and kicks after an argument broke out.
Pragnesh sustained serious injuries from the incident.
A police officer said Pragnesh is currently being treated for his injuries in a Civil Hospital.
The other men in the video are believed to be the relatives and the staff of the alleged restaurant.
An FIR has been filed against the owner of the restaurant owner and the staff under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and under sections of Preventions of Atrocities against SC/ST Act.
The police are yet to release an official statement about the said incident.
