Indian Politician Arrested For Feeding People Cow Urine While Claiming It Will Prevent Coronavirus Spreading

The police in Kolkata, India, arrested a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party after they gave cow urine to home guard staffer claiming that it will be protecting them from contracting the coronavirus.

Yes, cow urine.

The incident happened earlier this year, but it recently got viral.

Narayan Chatterjee, a leader of the BJP of north Kolkata’s Jorasanko area, organized an event earlier this year where they distributed cow urine to residents.

They told people that it will offer complete protection against the coronavirus pandemic.

They also offered it to a Home Guard personnel in a uniform, who by the way drank it.

Pintu Pramanik, the Home Guard personnel, lodged a complaint at the Jorabagan police station.

He told the police that he was given cow urine that was passed off as “charanamrita” or ambrosia.

After the complaint was registered, the police ended up charging the leader under sections 269 (unlawfully or negligently spread the infection of any disease dangerous to life), 278 (making the atmosphere noxious to health) and 114 (abettor present when a crime is committed) of the Indian Penal Code.

They were later arrested.

BJP state unit general secretary Sayantan Basu confirmed that Chatterjee is a leader of their party. However, Basu said BJP had no association with the party that was carried out by the leader.

Talking about the party, Chatterjee said:

I committed no crime. I drank it myself before offering it to others. I know for sure it protects from novel coronavirus.

It was believed that the man told the locals that cow urine will offer 100 percent protection from the coronavirus.
