Baran, Rajasthan: A 22-year-old woman constable tried to commit suicide after she was abused by her drunk husband who was demanding dowry from her family.

Sheela Sahariya, the woman constable who is posted at the Mahila Police Station in Rajasthan, consumed the liquid form of a toilet cleaner after she was harassed and brutally beaten up by her drunk husband.

The 22-year-old constable was rushed to the district hospital of Baran after she consumed the toilet cleaner.

Officials said that she is currently recovering at the hospital and is currently out of danger.

The police have lodged a complaint against Sanjay Sahariya, the husband of Sheela, after she gave a statement to the investigating officers.

Sanjay Sahariya is addicted to liquor and is unemployed, and has been harassing and thrashing Sheela for dowry since the day they got married.

ASI Bhanwar Singh said that Sanjay Sahariya usually beat Sheela after he got drunk and would demand dowry from her.

Sheela Sahariya joined the Rajasthan police 3-years-ago.
