US Female Astronaut Casts Vote From International Space Station

A female astronaut from the United States of America who is currently in the International Space Station casted her vote from space!

Kate Rubins, a US Astronaut, voted from abroad the International Space Station on October 22, 2020.

She said that the cast was an ‘ultimate absentee ballot.’

NASA posted a picture of Rubins casting a vote from the International Space Station.

She could be seen floating in zero gravity.

The picture that Rubins shared showed her standing in front of a booth that had a message written over it.

The booth had “ISS Voting Booth”.

In reality, the booth was the International Space Station’s toilet.

Rubins talked about her being capable of voting from outer space before she was launched into space from Kazakhstan last week.

During an interview with France24, Rubins said:

We consider it an honor to be able to vote from space. If we can do it from space then I believe folks can do it from the ground too.

According to NASA, the absentee voting process was done through a secure electronic ballot that was sent via email to the ISS.

Rubins filled in the ballot, which was downlinked back to the Harris County clerk’s office in Houston, Texas, so it could be counted as an official vote.

This will not be the first or last time Americans will be casting vote from outside this world.

Later next week, 3 Americans will be launched into space.

They will be casting their votes from the ISS.
