Adamawa NUT Chairman Claims Teacher Did Not Rape And Impregnate 12-Year-Old Girl Because They Were Lovers

The Nigerian Union of Teachers Chairman in Adamawa State, Comrade Rodney Nathan, denied the claims that a teacher raped a 12-year-old girl in Namtari.

Chairman Nathan said that the 12-year-old was a student of a Government Secondary School in Namtari, and the teacher was a school teacher in a village in Adamawa State.

The Chairman also added that it was too early for the Adamawa Police Command and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps to conclude that the incident was rape.

The Chairman said the 12-year-old girl had keys to the teacher’s house when the teacher got arrested by the police.

The Chairman said the teacher and the schoolgirl were lovers for 6 months before the teacher found out that the girl was pregnant.

Defending his claims, the Chairman said, “One cannot call a mutual relationship between a schoolgirl and her teacher who are mutually in love a rape case adding that the fact that the girl was “carrying a six-month pregnancy, (was) an indication that a long-term relationship had existed between the teacher and the schoolgirl.”

The Chairman asked, “At what point did the rape take place, was it six months ago, or now that it was discovered the schoolgirl is carrying a six-month pregnancy?”

The Chairman also called out the parents of the 12-year-old girl and the village of the girl, because they knew about the affair.

The chairman said the incident could have been avoided if the parents of the girl and the village stopped the girl.
