Denmark Will Cull Entire Mink Population Due To COVID-19 Mutation Fears

Denmark is currently planning to cull more than 15 million minks in the entire country over fears of a coronavirus mutation that is capable of spreading from animals to humans.

Mette Frederiksen, the Prime Minister of Denmark, said that at least 12 people have been infected with the mutated virus.

It has been confirmed that the virus originated in its mink farms.

According to Magnus Heunicke, the Health Minister of Denmark said that half of the 783 human coronavirus cases in Northern Denmark are related to minks.

During the press release, Prime Minister Frederiksen said that the situation is very serious.

The decision to eliminate the entire mink population of the country was done due to the uncertainty of coronavirus vaccines.

The PM added:

We have a great responsibility towards our own population, but with the mutation that has now been found, we have an even greater responsibility for the rest of the world as well.

It will cost Denmark $785 million to kill the entire population of minks in the country.

There are currently over 15 million minks on about 1,100 farms in Denmark

Denmark is currently the largest producer of mink furs in the world.
