Huawei Launched Mate 8 With Android Marshmallow 6.0 and 4,000 mAh Battery – Fails to Reach Expectations!

Huawei, the Chinese firm has finally unveiled its new flagship device called ‘Mate 8’ at a dedicated launch event which is held today. Huawei took wraps off its a widely expected smartphone Huawei Mate 8. The company claims that the new handset is the successor to the Huawei Mate 7, which was launched last year. However, the Mate 8 doesn’t come with excellent specifications and features as  compared to its predecessor. Huawei has impressed everyone with the launch of Nexus 6P which has high-end specifications and stunning look. Now, with the release of the new Mate 8, Huawei seems to follow the line-up like its Mate 7.

Recently, Gartner, Inc., an American information technology research and advisory firm has given its third quarter 2015 report in which it has reported the smartphone sales across the world. Huawei has recorded highest growth in both mobile phone and smartphone sales in Third Quarter of 2015. Huawei has launched the Mate 8 in three storage variants such as 32GB, 64GB and 128Gb variants. Specifications

The new Huawei Mate 8 features a 6-inch IPS display with Full HD display with 1080 pixel resolution and Gorilla Glass 4 protection. The handset is powered by the company’s own octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 950 processor which is clocked at 2.3GHz quad-core alongside 1.8GHz quad-core chipset. Both are clubbed with Mali-T880MP4 GPU clocked at 900MHz.

Huawei has launched the Mate 8 in three storage variants:

  • 32GB internal storage and 3GB RAM
  • 64GB built-in storage and 4GB RAM
  • 128GB internal storage and 4GB RAM

Additionally, the smartphone comes with microSD card storage for the further expansion of storage up to 128GB. The device runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. On the Camera front, the smartphone comes equipped with  a 16MP rear camera with phase-detection autofocus, OIS and two-tone, dual-LED flash while the front-facing camera has 8MP resolution. In terms of Connectivity, the handset includes the following the connectivity options:

  • 2G, 3G, 4G
  • Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth 4.1
  • NFC
  • microUSB 2.0

The Huawei Mate 8 is power-packed by a 4,000mAh battery which supports fast-charging and can go from zero to 37% in just 30 minutes. The handset also comes with a circular fingerprint sensor which is located below the rear camera. The smartphone will be available in four colour variants that include Champagne Gold, Moonlight Silver, Space Gray, and Mocha Brown colour variants. Some other additional features of the Huawei Mate 8 includes voice controls, firewall to save power, defragmenter for the storage, and eRecovery.

Price & Availability

Huawei has rolled out the Mate 8 in three storage variants and price will be varied for each variant. The 32GB variant coupled with 3GB RAM is priced at 2,999 yuan (approximately $470). The  64GB storage variant paired with 4GB RAM is priced at 3,699 yuan (approximately $580). The final storage variant which has 128GB internal storage clubbed with 4GB RAM is priced at 4,399 yuan (approximately $690).

However, the smartphone could not reach the high expectations in comparison with its high-end Nexus 6P smartphone. Today, Huawei Mate 8 launched in China and will be coming to international markets right after an official statement which will be unveiled at CES 2016 in January.
