Barmer: The son of the BJP veteran Jaswant Singh, Manvendra Singh, has announced that he has quit the BJP party. During his speech at the Swabhiman rally in Barmer district of Rajasthan on Saturday, Manvendra Singh said “joining the BJP was his “mistake”. “Kamal ki phool hamari bhool thi (To choose Lotus flower was my mistake), said the lawmaker during the rally, who has been campaigning in his constituency in a vigorous manner ever since he announced a rally for “fight for self-respect” of voters.

“There have been many rallies on Gaurav (pride) and Sankalp (determination) but today’s rally is the biggest – it is the rally for Swabhiman (self-respect), said Manvendra Singh, adding that “swabhiman is our right and we are committed to it.”

The ties of Manvendra Singh with the BJP party have been strained ever since his father was denied by the party a ticket in the last Lok Sabha elections of 2014 and going back towards the issue today he said that he was “running out of patience” and now it’s “time for him to speak out.”

The annoyed sitting lawmaker from Sheo alleged that he received a call from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014 after the ticket was denied by the party for his father. PM Modi told him “we have old relations and whatever has happened about the Barmer ticket is very sad” claimed Manvendra Singh.

“The Prime Minister said somebody in Jaipur and two people from Delhi are behind this conspiracy,” alleged Manvendra Singh. He said while targeting the BJP and the central leadership that he talked about all issues with them but they have done nothing in this regard. “The wounds are deepening and there is nobody to listen,” he said.

The leader claimed that the issue was “beyond Barmer,” and urged all his supporters to “keep the spark alive… keep it going… spread it in Rajasthan,” said Manvendra Singh, and at last he challenged the Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and added “a storm is brewing here and it’s headed eastwards…it’s a storm that will reach Jaipur.”

Soon after announcing that he has quit the BJP party, Manvendra Singh said, however, has not clarified his stance regarding the joining of the Congress. “I will go by what people here say,” he said.

The development comes at a time when close allies of BJP are being seen to be drawing back their support to the party.
