Three Trinamool Congress (TMC) Workers Killed in Intra-Party Clash

Burdwan: Three Trinamool Congress workers have been killed in an intra-party clash in Burdwan district last night. A clash between TMC members belonging to two groups late last night has resulted in the death of three at Khandaghosh village in Burdwan district.

Supporters of former block president Moni Hossain and present block president Alok Majhi were allegedly involved in the fight. Trouble had been brewing between the two factions over area domination for quite some time and yesterday the three workers, owing allegiance to Alok Manjhi, were attacked with lathis and rods. They were declared ‘brought dead’ at Burdwan Medical College and Hospital.

Officials of Khandaghosh Police Station have recovered three bodies, who were identified as Sk Jainaluddin, K Shawkat and Layek Ainul — all belonging to Alok Majhi group.

Superintendent of police Kunal Agarwal said, “There had been a clash between two groups and three persons have died in the process. We have detained 10 persons and are interrogating them,” Six people were detained in this connection, the SP said.

It was also learnt out that Burdwan TMC president Swapan Debnath had conducted a meeting with other district leaders.The bodies of the victims have been sent to the post mortem and after that they are handed over to their family members. The police were on a search of the members who are absconding.

“I have sought a detailed report about the incident. The SP has been to the spot and I have told him that none of the offenders should be spared. Strict action should be taken against those found guilty irrespective of their political affiliation,” Agarwal said.
