Earlier this morning, Cyclone Fani hit the coast of Odisha, the cyclone brought in strong winds and heavy rains. The Indian Meteorological Department categorized the cyclone as category 4.
A video was posted by the Press Information Bureau that showed the impact of Cyclone Fani.
The Bureau tweeted, “The sound and the fury: here’s what the landfall at Puri by #CycloneFani actually looked like.”
The 15-second video showed the strong winds that were brought in by the cyclone, you could also see the trees swaying.
The Indian Meteorological Department said that the cyclone brought in winds that are between 150-175 kilometers per hour.
The department added that the eye of Cyclone Feni is 30 kilometers in diameter.
Authorities in Odisha said that Puri and other towns are currently submerged in heavy rains, many trees have been uprooted, and some structures in Bhubaneswar have been destroyed.
Before the Cyclone could hit the land, officials evacuated more than 11 lakh people from the coastal areas within 24 hours.
The local government has the Air Force, The Indian Army, The Coast Guard, and a few Disaster Management Agencies on standby.
The Meteorological Department said that since 1999, Cyclone Fani is the strongest cyclone that has hit the coastal areas. The Super Cyclone in 1999 killed around 10,000 people and destroyed many infrastructures in Odisha.
