Manila, Philippines: A police official in Manila is currently facing charges for raping a trainee and forcing her to have an abortion.
The news was confirmed by the MPD (Manila Police District) Women And Children’s Protection Division on Thursday (June 6, 2020).
Capt. Heherson Zambale, commander of the Barbosa police community precinct, is facing rape and induced abortion charges.
He was also brought before the prosecutor’s office, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Maj. Gen. Debold Sinas said on Thursday.
Aliah, the wife of Zambale, and 2 other women, who are abortionists, are facing the same charges as the police officer.
Zambale reportedly raped the criminology student, whose identity was not shared with the public, on March 7, 2020, when she was drunk.
The trainee was undergoing an OJT (On-The-Job) training at the precinct.
He also reportedly forced her to take an abortifacient.
The drug failed, so he brought her to an abortionist in Sampaloc 2 months after the rape happened, said the Philippine Star in a report.
MPD chief Brig. Gen. Rolando Miranda relieved Zambale, recalled his government-issued firearm, and assigned him to the district holding and accounting unit.
Chief Maj. Gen. Debold Sinas said he has “directed all district directors and chiefs of police to terminate the practice of accepting (trainees), especially if such arrangement is existing in their stations (or) units.”
General Sinas has also ordered officials to send their request for trainees to the NCRPO’s regional learning and doctrine development division.
