The Indira Gandhi National Open University, known as IGNOU, is a distance learning national university located in Maidan Garhi, New Delhi, India. Named after former Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi. IGNOU has 21 schools and a network of 67 regional centers, 2667 study centers, and 29 overseas centers (in 15 countries). Approximately 20% of all students enrolled in higher education in India are enrolled with IGNOU. IGNOU offers 226 academic programs comprising courses at certificate, diploma and degree levels.

This year,  IGNOU invites applications for the following programmes: M.Phil. in Chemistry and Geography & Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Chemistry, French, Gender and Development Studies, Geography, Geology, Journalism and Mass Communication, Fine Arts, Physics, Theatre Arts, Statistics and Women’s Studies.

According to Instructions on the official website, qualifying the entrance test does not entitle the candidate to claim admission in the research programme. The candidates securing at least 50% marks in the entrance test for General and OBC (45% marks in the case of SC/ST/PH) will be shortlisted for the interview in order of merit to be conducted by the respective School of Studies.
