First Half Of 2017 Is The Hottest Part Since 137 Years On Earth
Climate change is real, we can feel the blistering sun tearing into our skins every summer, the situation is worse since last two years. Records claim that this year’s May was the second-warmest May in 137 years of modern record-keeping of average global temperatures.
NASA claims that the two top May temperature anomalies have occurred during the past two years. 2016 was the hottest on record, at 0.93 degrees Celsius warmer than the May mean temperature. This May’s temperature was 0.05 degrees Celsius cooler than last year. It was just 0.01 degrees Celsius warmer than the third warmest May, which occurred in 2014.
On the whole, as of now, the first half of this year was the second hottest – just behind 2016 – in 137 years of modern record-keeping on Earth, scientists said today. The average temperature across global land and ocean surfaces was 0.91 degrees Celsius above the 20th century average of 13.5 degrees Celsius.
According to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) global temperature data, this was the second highest value for January-June in the 1880-2017 record, behind the record year of last year. Considering the June, this year’s June is the third hottest June.
Compared with 20th century’s statistics, the June temperature across global land and ocean surfaces is just 0.82 degrees Celsius more, which is 15.5 degrees Celsius in precise.
NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) did this monthly analysis, in this, scientists assembled about 6,300 meteorological stations around the world, ship- and buoy-based instruments measuring sea surface temperature, and Antarctic research stations to study statistics.
The year 1880 is taken here, as the modern global temperature record began at that period.
