As Indian opening batsman Murali Vijay stated that he is not 100% ready and KL Rahul unfit for the first Test match against Sri Lanka, team India decided and gave the golden chance to youngster Abhinav Mukund to join the man in form Shikhar Dhawan as the opener.
But the chance was ruined by him as he was out scoring just 12 runs in the first innings. After wasting a golden opportunity to make an impression with the bat, Abhinav made amends with some brilliant reflex fielding against Sri Lanka on Day2 of the first Test at Galle.
Abhinav was brilliant at the silly point region which helped team India bag the wickets of Tharanga and Dickwella. Ravi Ashwin is bowling the 34th over and he flights a delivery to which Tharanga danced down the track to hit a six.

But the ball dipped a bit resulting in a jab by Tharanga. Abhinav Mukund caught the ball and sent it back to wicketkeeper Saha swiftly. Saha taking an under arm throw dipped the bails off in a flash and Tharanga was run out.
In the second instance, Ashwin was trying hard to get a wicket and bowled extremely well troubling the Sri Lankan batsmen with his line and length. He was caught an LBW which was reviewed and it went favor of batsman as the ‘Umpire’s Call’.
He finally secured the wicket of Niroshan Dickwella in the 40th over, thanks to a superb catch by Abhinav Mukund. Standing in close at silly point, Mukund reacted extremely well after the ball took the outside-edge of Dickwella’s bat and took a blinder diving to his right.

Despite his poor batting, Abhinav impressed everyone with his amazing fielding skills on the ground.
