Farmers Are Applying SunScreen Onto Pigs To Avoid Sunburn

The heatwave has caused a number of problems for humans and is also distressing animals all over the world.

In order to help protect animals, a farm near Leicester applied sunscreen onto the ears and head of a pig.

The image above was shot at the Stonehurst Family Farm in Mountsorrel, which is located near Leicester.

When the image was taken, the temps at the farm reached 35C.

The Stonehurst Family Farm has 5 sows, which are kept in sties.

Due to the heatwave, the mud would not provide protection to sows and can cause damage to their skin and pain.

Jen Bevin, the 28-year-old Manager of the Stonehurst Family Farm, explained why they applied sunscreen onto the skin of the pig.

Jen said, “We have a maternity unit here where pigs come to have their babies. In the wild pigs in this heat will keep cool with mud baths but because we are mainly sty-based the five sows here at the moment are liberally doused with sun cream to protect them for when they go outside.”
