Honest 19-Year-Old Boy Finds $135,000 Cash Next To ATM, Gives It To The Police

A 19-year-old Mexican boy is making headlines all over the world for his honest nature, which was tested after he found a bag on the floor with $135,000 inside it and handed it to the police so they could find the right owner of the money.

José Nuñez Romaniz, the kind boy, found the money and did what he did what many would not have.

The 19-year-old boy called the emergency number of the Wells Fargo bank ATM where the money was resting at.

Workers at the Wells Fargo realized that a mistake had been made by a subcontractor who meant to fill up the machine in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Romaniz, who is pursuing a degree in criminal justice, was rewarded for his honesty.

The bank gave $500 for his college tuition, $500 in cash, and season tickets to go and watch the University of New Mexico Lobos play Football.

Not only that, but the Albuquerque Police Department gave Romaniz a tour of their crime lab.

They said they had to give him a tour of their lab, considering the fact that he saved them a job of tracking down the criminal that got the money.

To top that off, they also offered to recruit him as a public safety officer so they could help him pay his college fee.

Recalling the incident, he said:

I didn’t know what to do. I was, like, dreaming. I was just in shock. I was looking at myself and just thinking, ‘What should I do?’

He added:

In the back of my head, I was just thinking about my parents, especially my mom. What she would do if I came home with the money and what she would do with her chancla (sandal) to hit me. I did the right thing and I know my parents are proud and my family is proud as well.

Mike Geier, the Chief of the Albuquerque Police Department, hailed the 19-year-old boy for his kind act.

Mike said:

What a great opportunity for us to see some good in the community with all the tragedies we see with young people, this really restores our faith in the community as well.

One day, Romaniz will be a great officer!
