Indian Police Officer Who Won Best Constable Award Arrested For Taking Bribe

A police constable in Telangana who won the Best Constable Award got arrested within 24 hours after winning the award. He was caught red-handed accepting a Rs. 17,000 bribe.

The police arrested Palle Thirupati Reddy, a police constable at the I-Town Police Station in Mahbubnagar.

Constable Reddy received the honor and citation from excise minister V Srinivas Goud, in the presence of district Superintendent of Police Rema Rajeswari on Independence Day.

And just within the day, Constable Reddy was on the front page of the news again.

But this time, he was not the good guy.

Later that day, the ACB (Anti- Corruption Bureau) arrested Constable Reddy for accepting Rs. 17,000 as a bribe for not registering a case against a person.

Ramesh, the person who registered a complaint against Constable Reddy, said that he was being harassed by the police officers.

He said the police were forcing him to pay bribes while he was transporting sand even while having valid documents.

After the ACB arrested the police constable, he was brought to an Anti-Corruption Bureau court and was sent into judicial custody.
