Spearfisherman Attacked By Shark Gets Rescued By Boat Full Of Nurses

A 40-year-old spearfisherman was attacked by a shark in Florida and was saved by a group of medical professionals who were just passing by the area.

Reports suggest that the fisherman was bitten by a shark while he was diving near the Key Biscayne on August 3, 2019 morning.

The companions stopped a passing fishing boat so they could help them.

Luckily, the boat that the companions of the diver stopped was full of nurses that were ready to assist him during the emergency.

Christine Haines and Glazia Martin, a pediatric nurse and an operating nurse at the San Antonio’s Stone Oak Methodist Hospital, were on board the passing by boat.

A video was also taken by an employee of the Hot Shot Charters.

The video shows the man in a wetsuit climbing up on the boat and has blood everywhere.

The bite of the shark caused severe injuries on the arm of the man.

According to the nurses, the arm of the man was “mangled”.

The nurses on the boat applied a tourniquet on the arm of the shark attack survivor while one of the onboard people rinsed the man with a hose.

Christine Haines said, “He was wearing a wet suit, but he had bite marks in about three different places.”

Haines added, “He had muscle and skin hanging off. The teeth marks were in his hand and skin was hanging off. There was quite a lot of blood.”

Luckily the nurses found a first aid kit to help the injured diver.

Haines continued, “Everyone remained extremely calm. It was a team effort,”

Haines added, “All hands on deck. Everybody helped. We commented afterward, ‘Wow, everybody was very calm.’ Even the guy that was bit — he was extremely calm, which really helped him and the situation.”

Sig Ozols, the captain of the boat, called 911 after helping the injured diver.

The paramedics at the Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park arrived within 20 minutes after they were informed about the incident.

The injured man is still recovering from his injuries at the Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.
