Everyone in India is eagerly waiting for the colorful festival Holi. This year Holi is falling on 2nd March 2018. Choti Holi and Holika Dahan on 1st March 2018. This festival is loved by everyone as people play with colors and have lots of fun on this day.

Significance:

Holi celebrated in a grand scale in India and there is significance for this festival why and how it is celebrated. Hiranyakashyap an arrogant king who is feeling himself superior and says everyone in his kingdom to worship him. But his son Prahalad is against this and he always worships Lord Vishnu in every walk of his life.

This is very rudely opposed by his father Hiranya Kashyap and gives him tests for every act he do. But Prahlad continued to worship Lord Vishnu. One day after many failed attempts he tests his son to enter into the fire along with his sister Holika who is wearing fire-resistant cloths. But finally, it is Holika who is burned in the fire but not Prahalad.

This situation symbolizes the victory of Prahalad over evil. So this day Holika Dahan is performed. Holika Dahan is celebrated with a bonfire and prayers and other offerings. People from north India will burn Jou which is believed to bring all the good into their lives thereafter.

After this day people celebrate Holi with all the colors and at some places, people drink Bhung. People also wish each other with special gifts and sweets in North India.

Bhadhra Puncha: 15:54 to 16:58 pm

Bhadra Mukha: 16:58 pm to 18:45 pm
