Ganesh Chaturthi, which is also known as the Vinayaka Chaturti, is a Hindu festival that celebrates the arrival of Ganesh Ji from Kailash Parvat with his mother, Parvati, a Goddess.

The festival of Ganesh Vinayaka Chaturthi is marked by installing Ganesh clay idols privately in houses and publicly by Shri Bal Gangadhar Tilak, which is popularly known as Lokmanya Tilak in Pune. It was first started in the year 1893.

Al thought it was first recorded in 1893, it is still unknown when or how the Ganesh Chaturthi started and observed. However, there are some signs that it was publicly celebrated in Pune since the era of Shivaji from 1630 to 1680, the founder of the Maratha Empire.

What to do on Ganesh Chaturthi?

On the day of Ganesh Chaturthi, people burn camphor at the altar and sign some songs that are dedicated to Ganesh Ji. A prayer is also done to seek the blessings of Ganesh Ji. Prasad, which is the holy food, is also distributed amongst the family and the people that are invited in the prayer. A prayer, which is also known as puja, is also carried out in the morning and evening.
