RPS Harsh Goenka Compares MS Dhoni-Steven Smith To Iconic Jai-Veeru, Laurel-Hardy Pair, Twitterati Trolls Him Like Boss

It all started from the toss. As both the captains of RPS and MI wanted to win the toss and elect to bat first, MI’s luck favored and they won the toss which eventually put the RPS team on the field. But soon the whole situation changed in favor of RPS as their bowlers started well-taking wickets quickly.

Even the skipper Steve Smith looked with deferred feeling as the match was under control of his team. Jaydev Unadkat like he has done earlier in the tournament gave his team a breakthrough and made it two with a brilliant return catch to dismiss Lendl Simmons after setting Parthiv Patel on his way back. RPS took three quick wickets and MI was on the back at that moment.

Finally, Steve Smith-led RPS set themselves up for a memorable title win by restricting two-time champions Mumbai Indians to a mediocre total of 129 for eight in the IPL final. MI batsmen failed to deliver while the RPS bowlers came out firing on their opponents.

Krunal Pandya is the only MI batsman who played good innings and also top-scored with a crucial 47-run knock while Rohit contributed 24 runs. Whereas, Jaydev Unadkat (2/19) and Adam Zampa (2/32) shared four wickets between them for Pune Supergiant.

Harsh Goenka, the brother of Rising Pune Supergiant owner Sanjeev Goenka, made a fresh attempt to soothe the fans by comparing Steven Smith and MS Dhoni’s partnership to that of the iconic Sholay pair of Jai and Veeru. Goenka hasn’t been a fan favorite of the RPS faithfuls during the course of IPL 10.

Earlier, he indirectly took a dig at MS Dhoni. But he has been constantly pulled up by fans on social media. But in a new attempt to get back into the good books of the Pune fans, Harsh Goenka has come up with this new salvo.

Jai-Veeru is the most iconic duo ever created in the history of Indian cinema. Sholay’s Jai (Amitabh Bachchan) and Veeru (Dharmendra) is still regarded as the best on-screen partnership in Bollywood. While Laurel and Hardy are the two most recognizable faces as far as English comedy goes. By comparing Smith and Dhoni to these iconic duos, what Goenka is trying to say is that the two players complete each other.

Twitter Reactions:

But even this legendary partnership could not get Pune over the line as Mumbai won the IPL-10 final by one run to win the title for a record third time. Smith starred for RPS with a half-century, but he perished in the last over and couldn’t get his team over the line.
