It was MS Dhoni who played a key role in Rising Pune Supergiant innings against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in the Qualifier-1 of IPL 2017. Rising Pune Supergiant had a shaky start to their innings after they lost in-form Rahul Tripathi and skipper Steve Smith within the first two overs.
Here’s when Ajinkya Rahane and Manoj Tiwary anchored RPS’ innings as they added 80 runs for the third wicket. Soon after Rahane was out for a leg-before, as expected, MS Dhoni turned the clock back with his majestic performance at Wankhede.
Each and every run which came off Dhoni’s bat was applauded by the crowd. However, it was MS Dhoni’s destructive batting in the last two overs which helped the Supergiant to add 41 runs to their total and put up a target of 163 for the two-times IPL champions Mumbai Indians.

Dhoni took his time initially but accelerated at the right time and scored 40 runs off just 26 balls. He smashed 5 massive sixes to add some kind of stability to RPS’ total. It was a knock that changed the entire scenario of the match and put RPS in the front seat.

However, at the end, RPS has won the match by 20 runs and became the first team to qualify for the IPL 2017 finals. Dhoni has been under scrutiny over his performance with the bat but with this performance, he will silence most of his critics.
