Kidambi Srikanth Clinches Indonesian Open Super Series Title By Defeating World No.1 ‘Son Wan Ho’

It was the event of Olympics, since then, Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth has been on news winning the subsequent titles for India. Until yesterday, he won titles only in India and China, and his victory on Sunday against World No.1 Son Wan Ho bagged him the first ever Indonesia Open Superseries title.

Srikanth played against Wan Ho after defeating Japanese qualifier Kazumasa Sakai in an impressive bait. This current World No.22 Srikanth has clinched a spot in the final after scoring a victory against World No.1 Son Wan Ho of South Korea a day earlier only needed 37 minutes to overpower Sakai in two straight sets with 21-11, 21-19.

Earlier to this, Srikanth finished off Japanese player Sakai in two straight sets with 21-11, 21-19 within 37 minutes.

Post the game in Jakarta, Srikanth told the media that “It’s been a long time since I’ve won a super series as I was actually injured after the Olympics.”

Beating the ambiguity in the situation, Srikanth pulled the game to his side after Sakai was leading by 11-6 at the beginning of the second game.

Describing the necessity of the victory he got against fellow Indian shuttler Sai Praneeth in the Singapore Open in April, Srikanth was quoted saying, “It’s definitely much needed for me after losing the final in the Singapore Open.”
