Kieron Pollard Deliberately Plays Culprit To Retain Strike By Running One Run Short Against KXIP [WATCH VIDEO]

In the match between Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab at Wankhede stadium, MI batsman Kieron Pollard deliberately plays culprit to retain strike by running one run short. The match was close enough as Pollard almost won the match for his team.

The match was a must-win game for Kings XI Punjab and with the help of Wriddhiman Saha’s unbeaten 55-ball 93 and Maxwell’s destructive innings of 47 runs, KXIP managed to go over 200 and set 231 as the target for the hosts.

Pollard playing one run short to retain the strike

While chasing, MI openers Lendl Simmons and Parthiv Patel had started very well and scored 99 runs in 8.4 overs for the first wicket. However, MI skipper Rohit and youngster Nitish Rana couldn’t score big and were sent to the pavilion soon.

Pollard and Hardik Pandya’s fifth wicket partnership brought Mumbai right back into contention and gave them a major boost in their chase. It was Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya who built the innings and made themselves to reach the target soon. The duo added 55 runs in just 18 balls, sharing nine sixes and a four between them.

In the final over of the second innings, Mohit Sharma was bowling to Pollard. MI need 16 runs to win and Pollard hit the first ball towards long on and called Harbhajan for two runs. But Pollard, returning for the second run, didn’t reach the crease and the umpire called one short. Pollard seemed to have deliberately run short to keep the strike.

Mumbai needed Pollard to take the majority of the strike so Pollard also wanted the same to take the strike anyway.

The match saw both the teams scoring 453 runs in 40 overs. However, Mumbai Indians ended up on the losing side and the KXIP won the match by 7 runs. The West Indian remained unbeaten on 50 off 24 balls with the help of a four and five sixes.
