IIT Assistant-Professor arrested for raping a 35-year-old woman who was his former student
On June 8, 2019, the Noida Police arrested Assistant-Professor Vivek Vijayvargiya, who works at IIT Jodhpur, for allegedly raping his former student.
Police Officer Rajveer Chauhan said that the police arrested the professor on Saturday morning, and was then brought to a magistrate court in Noida who has ordered him to stay in judicial custody.
The police said that the woman, who says she was his former student, is from Rajasthan.
The police added that the incident happened on June 6, 2019, when the woman and the professor were attending a motivational speech by Dr. Chinmaya Pandya.
The 35-year-old woman says that have known the professor since 2000 as he was his tutor from 2001 to 2001 in a private academy in Kota.
The former student then added that Assistant-Professor Vivek Vijayvargiya told her to meet him in his room and said that he had a job for her.
After the woman went inside the room, the professor raped her.
The police registered the complaint of the woman under the Indian Penal Code section 376, the assistant professor is now facing rape charges.
The woman has also gone under a medical examination for her claims.
