Over 1 Crore Affected, 170 People Dead, And 187 Animals Killed Assam And Bihar Floods
Flash floods in Assam and Bihar have claimed the lives of 170 people and has affected the lives of over 1 crore people.
So far, 66 people have lost their lives in Assam and 106 deaths have been confirmed in Bihar.
Over 76 lakh people have been affected in Bihar and over 30 lakh people have been affected by the flash floods in Assam.
Animals have also been affected in the flash floods, 187 animals, which include 16 endangered rhinos, in the Kaziranga National Park in Assam have been killed.
More than 90 thousand people are currently residing in 757 relief camps and relief centers in the two states.
Officials confirmed that over 114,000 hectares of agricultural land have been affected by the flash floods.
A total of 2,283 villages have been affected by the floods.
The Disaster Management Authority of Assam said that the Brahmaputra River is currently flowing above the danger level.
Due to the high water levels of the Brahmaputra River, the districts of Jorhat, Dhubri, Jia Bharali, Kopili, and Nagaon have been affected the most.
The Disaster Management added that the water levels in rivers are currently declining, but the number of affected people in the two states are continuously increasing.
The water levels in the districts of Katihar, Muzaffarpur, Saharsa, Supaul, Kishaganj, Purnea, Darbhanga, Sheohar, Araria, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, and East Champaran are currently decreasing.
125 boats have been deployed in the remote areas of the states.
Search and rescue operations are still ongoing in the two states.
