Houses Along Lake Erie Got Covered In Ice After 2 Days Of Gale-Force Winds
Residents that are living alongside the shore of Lake Erie, which is located in New York, USA, woke up to find their entire houses covered in thick ice.
Ed Mis, a resident in the affected area, has lived alongside the shore of Lake Erie in New York for the past 8 years.
He said he has seen ice coatings before, but called this year’s ice coating as one of the worse.
During an interview with CNN, Mis said, “It looks fake, it looks unreal. It’s dark on the inside of my house. It can be a little eerie, a little frightening.”
The house of Mis, which is located on the South Shore Drive in the Hoover Beach, located in the neighborhood of Hamburg that is around 9 miles south of Buffalo, is covered in several feet of ice and his backyard has around 12 feet of ice.
Mis said there was no ice in his yard or house on Thursday, but on Friday morning, his house and the house that is located in his neighborhood were completely covered in ice.
The houses in the neighborhood were covered in ice that looked like a scene out of Frozen, a Disney movie.
The images of the incident look amazing, but residents are worried about the snow, which can cause structural damage to their houses.
Mis said, “We’re worried about the integrity, of structure failure when it starts to melt, because of the weight on the roof.”
The houses got covered in snow after 84 hours of gale-force winds.
The winds managed to create huge waves, driving lake water up on the shore.
Tom Niziol, a winter weather expert, said, “When you are down in the low to mid-20s, all of that spray that comes up and hits the buildings is going to freeze and make it a giant icicle.”
The ice started to melt a bit since Friday.
