Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh: A 5-year-old girl was reportedly raped by her 28-year-old neighbor, confirmed the Bahraich Police on Saturday.

The incident happened in a village that is under the jurisdictions of the Khairaghat Police Station.

The Khairaghat Police Station told the local press that the incident happened on June 12, 2020.

The 5-year-old girl was reportedly sleeping along with her mother in their house when the 28-year-old man took her to a nearby field and allegedly raped her.

Vipin Mishra, a police officer working for the Khairaghat Police Station, the station said that the 28-year-old neighbor was arrested by the police following a complaint that was filed by the father of the girl.

The 5-year-old girl was sent for a medical examination, which will confirm the rape.

An official investigation and case have been launched for the incident.
