A 24-year-old doctor from New Delhi, India, is viral on social media right now after he wasted no time when there were no blood donors available for his patient, who was in a critical condition.

On July 21, 2020, Dr. Mohammed Fawaz performed and emergency surgery on a critically ill patient after donating his own blood to the patient.

Not all heroes wear capes, some wear scrubs.

Fawaz, who works with the department of surgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), said that a patient in his mid-30s came to the emergency room on Tuesday and was suffering from septic shock.

The man had an infection on his lower left leg.

Surgeons at the hospital said that his infection had cross across the leg and he had to go through emergency surgery.

With no blood left at the blood bank, Fawaz decided to go ahead and donated his own blood.

Dr. Fawaz explained what happened when the patient came in.

He said:

The patient came with his wife, who was not physically fit to donate blood. I wanted to take him to the operation theatre and remove the infected parts so that he can be stabilised. We couldn’t wait for his attendants to reach the hospital, so I decided to donate blood and get a few more units from the blood bank.

The patient had low hemoglobin counts and doctors had to intubate him.

There was not enough blood available in the blood bank, said the authorities.

Horus after receiving the blood, the hemoglobin count of the patient, whose identity was not shared with the public, became stable.

Dr. Fawaz ended up performing an emergency surgery on him.
