A teacher in the United States of America who turned their house into a PPE factory amidst this coronavirus pandemic was honored with a new special edition Mazda car.
The man did the kind act to help hospital workers.
Jason Erdreich, who lives in New Jersey, USA, used 3D printers at their house to make thousands of masks for local health care workers.
He did that when protective gear started to run out.
Because of the amazing act that he did, Jason is one of the 50 people that got chosen by Mazda to receive a new Mazda MX-5 Miata 100th Anniversary Special Edition.
The winners were chosen by Mazda for their selfless acts, creating thinking, and contributions to the community.
During an interview with CNN, Jason said he was really happy that he could do such thing amidst this coronavirus pandemic.
He added:
I mean I had to. I had the resources to help, I was able to help, I couldn’t not help others that were doing so much to help us. Front line workers were, and are, doing so much to care for us, someone needs to make sure they are taken care of too. I’m glad I was able to contribute to that.
Jason, who teaches woodworking, manufacturing, and robotics, got nominated for the car because of his wife.
The man reportedly borrowed 15 printers from the school, set them up in their living room, and started to print out masks.
After mastering the art of printing masks, the kind man taught fellow teachers and his own students how he could do the same.
In total, they printed 12,000 PPE items for hospitals, nursing homes, and other frontline workers.
In a video that was shared on the internet, you can see the moment Jason was surprised with a car.
His wife was heard saying:
I nominated you to be a Mazda hero because you were compassionate and generous in a time when people were afraid.
Jason said he was left speechless after the announcement.
Jeff Guyton, the president of Mazda North American Operations, released a statement about the act of the company.
They said in the statement:
This year has been full of challenges and we wanted to lean into our brand’s heritage of finding innovative ways to brighten people’s lives. We were inspired to create the Mazda Heroes program to honor all those who are working tirelessly to uplift their own communities.
Such a great thing to do!
