Turtle Born With Golden Shell Is Being Worshipped As God In Nepal
A turtle that is believed to be a reincarnation of a God after being born with a golden shell is currently being worshipped at a small village in Nepal.
The unusual turtle was found in a village in south-east Nepal.
The golden turtle has been identified as an Indian Flapshell turtle.
The turtle got its color from the ultra-rare genetic mutation chromatic leucism, which causes loss of color pigmentation.
In some it can result in white, patchy, or pale skin, however, in ultra-rare incidents, it can trigger golden yellowish pigments.
Kamal Devkota, a reptile expert, tried to explain the incident in Nepal.
He said:
It is believed that Lord Vishnu took the form of a turtle to save the universe from destruction in his incarnation. In Hindu mythology, the upper shell of the turtle denotes the sky and lower shell denotes earth.
Kurma, the turtle avatar of lord Vishnu, is still being worshipped in a number of temples all across India.
Devkota, who works with the Nepal Toxinology Association, said that this is his first encounter with this unusual turtle.
Not only that, Devkota said that this is the first record in Nepal of chromatic leucism.
It is believed to be only the fifth in the species worldwide with such conditions.
After being studied and documented, the turtle was released into the wild.
Reports suggest that the turtle was found in the Dhanushadham Municipality, part of Nepal’s Dhanusha District.
