MacKenzie Scott Donates $4.1 Billion USD To 384 Food Banks And Charities Amidst Pandemic

Mackenzie Scott, the former wife of Jeff Bezos, has done something very few people have in their entire lives.

Scott recently revealed that she has donated over $1.4 billion to 384 banks and charities.

Scott is a philanthropist and she is the former wife of Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon.

She wrote a blog post and revealed that she has donated a lot of money.

In the post, she explained how the global pandemic allowed her to gain a new perspective on life and how she decided to increase the amount she was giving to those that are in need.

She shared the blog on Medium.

Scott, who is 50, described the pandemic as a wrecking ball in the lives of Americans that are already struggling.

She said that she just wanted to something to help the ones that are in need of help.

In the blog she said:

After my post in July, I asked a team of advisors to help me accelerate my 2020 giving through immediate support to people suffering the economic effects of the crisis. They took a data-driven approach to identifying organizations with strong leadership teams and results, with special attention to those operating in communities facing high projected food insecurity, high measures of racial inequity, high local poverty rates, and low access to philanthropic capital. The result over the last four months has been $4,158,500,000 in gifts to 384 organizations across all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and Washington D.C. Some are filling basic needs: food banks, emergency relief funds, and support services for those most vulnerable. Others are addressing long-term systemic inequities that have been deepened by the crisis: debt relief, employment training, credit and financial services for under-resourced communities, education for historically marginalised and underserved people, civil rights advocacy groups, and legal defence funds that take on institutional discrimination.

One of the companies that benefited from Scott’s latest donations is Craft3.

The companies got $10 million. They are a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) that invests in businesses run by people of color.

Adam Zimmerman, the president, and CEO of Craft3, released a statement about MacKenzie Scott’s donation.

They said:

We are incredibly honored by the recognition that comes with this unprecedented gift. Community Development Financial Institutions are the front line of inclusive, equitable finance in the United States.

Such a kind act by MacKenzie!
