Shadol, Madhya Pradesh: A 17-year-old girl died in a hospital after she was raped, strangled, and dumped in the bushes.
The rapist, who is believed to be 22 years old, has been arrested by the police.
Satyendra Shukla, the Shahdol Superintendent of Police, said that the incident occurred at a village that is under the Jaitpur Police Station area of the district.
The 17-year-old girl, whose identity was not shared with the public, went out of their house on the evening of May 26, 2020, to offer prayers at a temple nearby their house.
However, she did not return to their house.
SP Shukla said that the members of the family launched a search party, but failed to find the 17-year-old girl.
On the morning of Wednesday, the 17-year-old girl was found unconscious in bushes near her house.
The SP said that the teenager was immediately rushed by her family to the Shahdol district’s hospital, where she died later that evening.
22-year-old Arif Khan, the rapist, has been arrested by the police.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Khan tried to strangle the girl to death so no one could learn about the incident.
The SP said that the accused admitted the crime to the police during an interrogation.
Khan admitted to the police that he raped the 17-year-old girl, strangled her, and dumped her in the bushes, thinking that she had died.
Khan has been booked under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections that are related to murder and rape.
Khan is also facing charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the SP added.
