17-Year-Old Indian Adopts Visually-Challenged Leopard On Her Birthday

A 17-year-old Indian girl is currently setting an example after they adopted a visually-challenged leopard on her birthday.

The wild cat was adopted by Vedangi, a teenager, who is the daughter of Miland Borikar, a Suburban collector in Mumbai, India.

The wild cat is around 9 years old and is visually challenged.

The female leopard was found injured in the Western Ghats and was later rehabilitated at the Sanjay Gandi National Park (SGBP).

During an interview with Borikar, they said:

We were searching for an animal to adopt when SGNP officials told us about Koyna and we decided to make her part of our family. We are now happy to see her growing healthy as the staff takes good care of her.

The teen was really keen on adopting a wild animal in 2019.

The wish of the teen came true after the government allows corporates and individuals to take care of wild animals for a single year.

Koyna, the leopard, is injured.

The poor leopard has both her eyes severely damaged in a sugar cane field that was set on fire in 2012.

Koyna was shifted to a natural park because authorities believed that the leopard is not capable of surviving in the jungle.

An official of the park that took care of the leopard said that Koyna was brought to them because she had very little chance of surviving in the jungle due to her eye problems.

The official added:

Koyna was brought here as she couldn’t have survived in the jungle due to her handicap. We reared her and were trying to find a patron for her till now. Many preferred healthy animals; there was no one to adopt Koyna and we were surprised and, at the same time, happy when Borikars showed interest.

Such an amazing thing to do!
