Agartala, India: A man committed suicide after his wife gave birth to a girl, said the police on the evening of Monday.

After getting to know that her husband committed suicide, the woman died following a heart attack.

The woman could not withstand the ‘shock on hearing the news of her husband’s suicide and after being admonished by her mother-in-law’, said the police.

According to Gulfnews, 23-year-old Supriya Das had given birth four days ago, for which she was reprimanded by her in-laws and her husband, Pran Gobinda Das, as the family wanted to have a baby boy.

The police released a statement about the incident, where they explained what happened in the horrible incident.

The police said:

After repeated quarrels with her wife, Pran Gobinda committed suicide by setting himself on fire on Sunday. Supriya also died subsequently following a heart attack as she could not bear the shock of her husband’s death at a medical college in Agartala with her mother-in-law continuously rebuking her for delivering a girl child.

The police said that the incident happened in Gautamnagar, which is located 130 kilometers south of Agartala.

The neighbors of the deceased couple said that the mother-in-law of Supriya constantly scolded her since the birth of the child.

The police did not arrest anyone in connection with the incident.
