In 48 hours, 36 children died in Bihar, Doctors suspect Acute Encephalitis
36 children died in Bihar in the last 48 hours, the doctors suspect that the kids passed away due to suspected Acute Encephalitis Syndrome, which is also known as AES.
Most of the deaths were caused by Hypoglycemia, which is a very low level of blood sugar.
Dr. SK Sahi, the medical superintendent at the Sri Krishna Medical College Hospital, said, “There’s proper research required, but 90 percent cases are due to hypoglycemia.”
The wards in government and private hospitals are currently full of kids, most of them are from rural areas.
The AES, Acute Encephalitis Syndrome, hits children that are below 15 years old.
The early symptoms of the Acute Encephalitis Syndrome are changes in Mental Status, Confusion, Delirium, Disorientation, Coma, or Seizures.
According to CM Nitish Kumar, the people in the state do not have information and awareness about the disease.
The CM added, “It seems that in the last two years there was a drop in the number of cases, but this time it has hit once again. The awareness campaign was not done properly.”
He added that the people in the state should not let their people sleep hungry.
Health department officials have also visited the state so they could know the situation better.
