India: Man Kills 65-Year-Old Father Over Land Dispute In Maharashtra
Latur, Maharashtra: A man reportedly killed his 65-year-old father over a land dispute, confirmed the Maharashtra police on Sunday.
According to the police, the incident happened in the Chakur Tehsil of Maharashtra’s Latur district.
An official from the Chakur Police Station said that the incident happened on Friday.
Dhananjay Marapalle, the son of the 65-year-old man, was arrested by the police on June 20, 2020.
Chandrakant Marapalle, the 65-year-old man, was a former chairman of the Panchayat Samiti of Chakur.
The police official, whose identity was not shared with the public, said:
The victim’s another son lodged a complaint stating that the accused had a habit of drinking and would often quarrel with his father over division of property and land. The accused wanted to live separately with his wife and son, and used to threaten the victim.
The police said that the 65-year-old man was not ready to divide the land and give some of it to Dhananjay.
The police added:
On June 19, the accused hit his father with a floor tile on his head, following which he victim collapsed to the ground. The victim was then rushed to a local government hospital. However, he died during treatment early on June 20.
A case was registered against Dhananjay for murdering his father.
He has been arrested and an official inquiry has been launched.
