As the lion tried to kill down animals, the villagers tracked the lion and found it hiding inside a deserted primary school.
A video that was shared on Twitter showed the big cat resting on a ledge by a broken fence.
Officers that work for the Forest Department used tranquilizers to put the lion in sleep before they released it back to the jungle.
Officers used a large cage in a bid to transfer the animal away from the village.
A spokesperson for the forestry department said that the lion that they caught is around 5 years old.
It is believed that the lion entered the school through a dilapidated gate and was trapped inside it until officers came to rescue it.
The spokesperson said:
This young lion must have come to the area to hunt as there is a cattle shed in the backside of the primary school. It entered the cattle shed in the wee hours of Wednesday when it was quite dark. But people living near the shed woke up and after spotting the lion, raised an alarm. The sudden burst of noises frightened the animal which quickly sought refuge inside the school building.
The lion was brought to the Jasadhar Anmal Care Centre before it was released into a forest.
