Maharashtra Man Arrested For Torturing And Divorcing Wife By Saying “Talaq” 3 Times Despite Ban On Muslim Tradition

Maharashtra, India: A 27-year-old man was arrested by the police for torturing his wife and giving her an instant triple talaq, a practice that is banned under the law of India.

The man, who was not identified, is a resident of Samrubaugh in Bhiwandi town of Thane district.

The police said that the sister of the accused has been charged too as she was involved in torturing the woman.

Bhiwandi Rajkumar Shinde, a senior police official, said an offense under charges of husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting to cruelty and causing hurt has been registered.

The Shanti Nagar Police Department has launched an official investigation against the incident.

Not only that, but the man was also charged under the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019.

The husband of the woman has been arrested.

The wife, who is only 21, went to the police and registered a complaint after saying that she was subjected to torture and abuse by her husband and his sister.

Investigations revealed that the man called his wife on the evening of July 24, 2020, and gave her an instant talaq, which is prohibited in India right now.
