Off-Duty Doctor Saved Newborn’s Life By Rushing Him To Hospital On His Motorcycle During Lockdown

It is the duty of the doctor to save anyone that is in need of their services, no matter they are working or off-duty.

A doctor from Maharashtra proved that he is following his oath.

A doctor in Maharashtra saved a newborn baby after he took the baby to a neonatal facility on his motorcycle.

The baby reportedly developed respiratory problems a couple of minutes after they were born.

According to reports, Shweta Patil, the mother, developed labor pains in the early hours of April 10, 2020.

The baby was taken to a nearby nursing home by Ketan Patil, her husband.

Ketan and Shweta had already lost their first child due to birth complications, so this time they knew they needed proper care.

Talking about the health of Shweta, Ketan said, “Shweta is a diabetic, and she was immediately put on medication to keep her sugar level under control.”

Considering the medical history of the mother, the local gynecologist called Dr. Rajendra Chandorkar, a neonatologist and pediatrician, for proper assistance.

Dr. Rajendra Chandorkar said that an emergency c-section was performed so the mother could deliver the baby.

The doctor said that the baby boy, who weighed 3.1 kilograms, was delivered with normal parameters.

However, the doctor’s relief was short-lived when the newborn developed breathing problems and started to turn blue.

Dr. Chandorkar said, “The diagnosis was transient tachypnea of the newborn (TTN) and the baby needed neonatal care urgently.”

Because of the ongoing lockdown, the newborn was rushed to the hospital of Dr. Chandorkar, which was over 1 kilometer away from the house.

The doctor brought the baby on his motorcycle.

Dr. Chandorkar talked about the current health condition of the baby:

“I admitted the baby to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and put him on oxygen support and his condition stabilized after 12 hours.  It was an overwhelming experience for me. The baby held on to my finger during examination and I just wanted to assure him that he was safe and will get well soon.”

Thank you for saving the little one’s life.
