Toddler Drowns To Death In India As Mother Was “Too Busy” Taking Selfies

The police in the state of Kerala, India, found the body of a missing 2-year-old boy after he was swept off into the sea while his mother was too busy taking selfies.

The incident happened at the Alappuzha Beach in Kerala, India.

Anithamoli, the mother, was visiting Thrissur, Kerala, for a wedding along with 2 of her children.

Anithamoli and her brother took the children on a leisure trip to the beach on the evening of Sunday.

On the day of the incident, there was heavy rain, so the police had closed off the main beach area as the sea had turned rough and it was posing as danger.

However, the family did not follow the rules and went to a part of the beach that was still open.

The brother of Anithamoli went to park the car, but she stayed with the kids and went on to take images with them.

The police said that Anithamoli was holding 2-year-old Adikrishna when a huge wave hit and caused all of them to lose their balance.

The 2-year-old boy fell into the water and the mother regained control right away.

She managed to save the 2 children that were with them, however, she failed to save her own son.

Her brother returned to the scene and helped her save the children, but the body of the 2-year-old was swept away.

A report for the missing child was filed at the local police station.

After 3 days of rescue efforts, the police told the local news agencies that the body of the 2-year-old boy was found.

He died.

The district Child Welfare Committee (CWC) chairperson Jalaja Chandran has asked police to register a case against family members who brought the children to the beach as they had violated the government orders amidst this coronavirus pandemic.
