Gautamiputra Satakarni movie is based on the life of 2nd century AD Satavahana ruler Gautamiputra Satakarni who was the most powerful king among Satavahanas. Based on the greatest ruler of Satavahana kingdom, Gautamiputra Satakarni boasts an ensemble cast in the form of Balakrishna, Shriya Saran, Hema Malini and few others. Besides the lead roles, Shiva Rajkumar, Kabir Bedi and Ravi Prakash played the crucial supporting roles in the movie.

Satakarni (Balakrishna) is a son who is well pampered by his mother and is well known for his love towards his mother and everyone underestimates him quoting him as mother’s son who is not meant to the battlefield. As a child, he misses his father who goes on wars and asks his mother about that. She says that his father went to win other emperors. He then vows to her mother that he is going to create a single big empire uniting all the small regions, spreading peace. This has become his life motive and how he achieved that motive forms the rest of the story.

Gautamiputra Satakarni has an interesting story, which throws light on the life of an unsung hero. Krish has created a brilliant screenplay, which is engaging right from the beginning till the end. The director has nicely blended all commercial ingredients like action, romance, drama and punch dialogues into serious and real-life story.

Balakrishna powerful performance as Gautamiputra Satakarni will steal the show. The director has managed to get rich production values within the limited budget. ” One Boundary, One sovereignty ” and dialogues around it and super grandeur war episode are highlights of this superb first half. Scenes between Balakrishna, Hemamalini, Shriya are good in 2nd half.

The brilliant choreography of war and action scenes, background score, picturization and punch dialogues are the attractions on the technical front. Dialogues by Sai Madhav Burra are the major highlights in this movie. The scene in which satakarni names himself after his mother as ” Gautamiputra Satakarni ” is highly emotional. Balayya’s forte with his Dialogues helped him done the role of Satakarni with ease; he should have taken more care with his appearance.
