The Bijapur Police confirmed that 5 people were killed and 42 were severely injured in a road accident in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh, after a van that was carrying people who attended a marriage in Dantewada got into an accident with a vehicle.

Officials said the accident happened near the village of Pandemurga on June 19, 2019.

The van was coming back from a marriage in Dantewada.

Nearly 50 people in the van were from Tidodi, Bijapur.

The police said a van that was carrying goods rammed into the vehicle, it was coming from the opposite direction of the road.

4 passengers of the van passed away on the spot and the 43 sustained injuries, they were rushed to several hospitals near the area.

One passenger passed away in the hospital while the doctors were trying to save him.

10 passengers are currently admitted in a hospital in Bijapur, 26 are admitted in a hospital in Bhairamgarh, and 6 are admitted in Dantewada.
