American Woman Spends $2500 On Extremely Rare Hairless Dog

A woman from North Carolina, USA, has shelled out over $2,500 for a rare hairless dog that looks like Anubis, the Egyptian god of death.

Wendy Scarborough, a dog rescue volunteer, is known for collecting rare dog breeds, and among her pack are 5 Spanish podencos, 2 galgos, a golden retriever, a husky, a Labrador, a lurcher, and a Persian Saluki.

But she got besotted when she saw a Peruvian Hairless Dog.

Fable, the pooch, was bought by Wendy for $2500.

According to reports, Wendy had the dog flown 3,115 miles from Peru to her in North Carolina.

Talking about the dog, she said, “They say she looks like an Egyptian statue and a lot of people refer to her as Anubis, the famous Egyptian god of mummification.”

The dog was reportedly hard to find because the breed was close to extinction in the early 1990s.

During an interview with LADbible, Wendy said, “There are very few breeders in the world now and there’s very few litters a year of Peruvian dogs.”

She added, “I tried for many years to get a Peruvian hairless in rescue but they are extremely hard to come by.”

Talking about the dog, Wendy said that the dog is actually pretty playful and is a bit silly.

She said, “Fable has such an expressionless face but she’s actually a very expressive dog when you get to know her.”

She added, “Every time I go out with her I’m stopped at least five times.”
