Caught On Cam: Lioness Saves Cub From Crocodile-Infested River

In a never seen footage before, a lioness was caught on cam saving her cub from drowning in a crocodile-infested river.

The lioness was crossing a river with her three cubs when suddenly one disappeared under the water.

Without thinking twice, the lioness grabbed the cub in her jaws and pulled it up on its legs to prevent it from being swept away.

Luca Bracali, the person who captured the video, said the incident happened at the River Ewaso Ny’iro in the Maasai Mara game reserve in Kenya.

Luca said it was so rare for cubs that young to cross a river that he had never seen anything like it in the 10 years he worked as a guide.

Luca said, “The photos show a mother lioness crossing the river for the first time, with her three cubs. It’s extremely rare.”

Luca added, “The guide who has been doing this job for ten years said he’s never seen it happen in his life. The cubs were just playing along the shore before they got into the river.”

Luca continued, “There were crocodiles in the river but luckily they didn’t meet them.  One of the cubs fell into the water and the mother lioness grabbed it in her mouth to save him from drowning.”

Luca believes the lioness and her cabs were trying to join the pack.

Luca, the person who caught the video and images, started his career as a photographer and sports reporter.

He later went to wildlife photography.

During the yearly migration from the Serengeti Plains in Tanzania to the Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya, several wild animals lose their lives.
