Date Gone Wrong: Angry Male Polar Bear Kills Female That Rejected Him

A mating date for 2 polar bears went horribly south at a zoo in Russia after the male polar bear killed the female polar bear that rejected him.

Aurora was moved 1,900 miles from Krasnoyarsk in Siberia to Izhevsk in the Urals to be introduced to Baloo, a giant male polar bear.

Perhaps there was a clue of trouble ahead in the first meeting when a video shows how she inspected the male.

However, upon their first date, Aurora inspected the male, rejected her, and walked in the opposite direction.

She only rejected him for intercourse, but they both basked in the sun and swam together.

Keepers watched and waited for the right moment, but everything ended in tragedy.

Andrey Gorban, the head of the Royev Ruchey zoo in Krasnoyarsk, said:

At the very moment he mounted her, something went wrong. Aurora showed her character, and Baloo was furious.

The killing is thought to be the first of its kind, said the zookeepers.

The Zoo staff threw water and shot a sedative at Baloo, but it did not do anything as their actions were late.

According to reports, Baloo managed to kill the smaller female in a matter of seconds.

Andrey explained:

He fell near Aurora but she was already dead. Everything happens in nature, but in zoos this is the first case, and we will carefully study what happened, both for ourselves and for science. I haven’t studied it thoroughly so far, but world-class specialists cannot remember such cases in zoos. It was a completely unexpected outbreak of aggression.

Addressing their social media followers, Andrey said:

It is unbearably hard to report this tragic news. Our Aurora is gone. Just the day before yesterday we were happy that our white giants found each other, loved each other. We were hoping to see the offspring. Spacious enclosures for little cubs were already being built in [our zoo]. But the sudden conflict crushed our hopes… only emptiness is left.

Wild things do indeed happen with wild animals.
